Weight of the Eiffel Tower vs the Weight of Bottles of Wine

How much does the Eiffel Tower weigh in comparison to bottles of wine? Exactly how many bottles does it take to equal the weight of the Eiffel Tower? Let's do the math.

The Eiffel Tower structure including elevators and shops weighs around 10,100 tons; that's over twenty million pounds.

A standard bottle of wine contains about 25 ounces of wine. The liquid by itself weighs about 1.56 pounds. An empty wine bottle plus cork weighs about 1.11 pounds. Adding them together. We find out that an average full bottle of wine weighs about 2.67 pounds.

Now after doing some basic division between these two facts, we soon discover that the Eiffel Tower weighs as much as 7,565,543 full bottles of wine.

Just for some further fun, the statistics currently say that the average French citizen drinks 43.1 litres of wine in a year. So doing some quick math, I figure that the country of France consumes an amount of wine equal to the Eiffel Tower's weight every 10 hours.

Way to go France. You're awesome!
